For example, try olive oil, coconut oil, or other fatty oils. These blends are great choices if you have dietary restrictions or simply want a different flavour combination.

The cooking method is simple, allowing you to make cannabutter with basic equipment, ingredients, and skills. Here’s everything you need to know about how to make weedy butter.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of butter or other cooking oil
  • 1 cup (8-10 grams) of ground cannabis

Tools

  • Baking tray
  • Foil or parchment paper
  • Grinder
  • Saucepan
  • Cooking thermometer
  • Cheesecloth
  • Funnel
  • Clean glass jar with lid

Step 1: Decarb Your Weed

Before you go any further, make sure to decarb your cannabis. This is always the first step in learning how to make THC butter. Decarboxylation might sound complicated, but it refers to heating your cannabis to activate the THC and CBD. Some recipes suggest decarbing your weed by adding it to hot butter, but we find that the best results happen when you keep this process a separate step.

Step 2: Bake Your Weed

Preheat your oven to 240° F, then evenly distribute your cannabis on a non-stick oven tray. You can also use a standard tray lined with foil or parchment paper. Bake your cannabis flowers for around 30 to 40 minutes.

This time isnt exact and will vary based on a few elements. For example, older and drier weed doesnt take as long to decarb. On the other hand, very fresh or wet buds can need an hour or more in the oven.

Check on the tray and shake it every 10 minutes to evenly cook your buds.

Step 3: Grind Your Weed

Carefully grind it with a weed grinder once your pot is out of the oven and cooled. You can also use a pair of scissors or your hands. Youre aiming for a fine, even texture.

Step 4: Simmer And Mix The Butter

Mix your cup of butter with a cup of water in your saucepan over low heat. Once the butter has evenly melted, add the cannabis to the pot. Allow the mix to simmer. Use the thermometer to ensure the temperature doesnt get above 200 degrees. Simmer for three hours, never bringing to a boil.

Step 5: Pour Into A Jar And Chill

Once your mixture has cooled, pour the butter through the cheesecloth into your clean glass jar. Allow it to strain, so all the plant material thoroughly is removed from the butter. If you want to learn how to make weed butter thats not full of plant debris, straining the mix is vital.

Refrigerate the jar to store it. There may be some excess water at the bottom of the jar, which you can pour off after 2-3 hours.
