Over the internet, you will find tons of different ways to roll a joint. Some of them are fancy, but to be honest, not so practical. Don’t let yourself get carried away by trying something that’s on another level.

On the other hand, going the traditional way leaves with just a handful of rolling options.

Why Rolling a Joint the Right Way is Important

Let’s Look at the Easiest and the Most Convenient Way

Let’s start by knowing how much weed is required to make a joint. The usual recommended weed amount is ½ grams. This is best suited for normal-sized rolling paper. The rolling paper comes in different sizes of course (more on this later), but 11/4 is considered a normal size here. The joint prepared using these will be enough for a couple of people.

This step-by-step guide will help you in becoming a master of rolling joints.

You need to begin by gathering the supplies that are needed to get the job done. Here is a list:

  • Rolling papers
  • Weed grinder
  • Filter tips
  • Lighter or a matchbox
  • Something slim and pointy, like a pen, etc.
  • And of course, your favorite flower (cannabis strain)
What You Need
What You Need

1.     Choose your Paper

The first step is to choose the paper of your choice. There are plenty of solid options you can pick and choose your paper from. However, choosing thin rice or wheat paper would be ideal here. Whether it’s a king-size paper or just a standard one, make sure that it burns evenly and slowly. You wouldn’t want your joint burning away quickly. It’s hard work, right?

Secondly, make sure that the paper doesn’t give a bad flavor. Yep, that happens as well. Making the right start is essential. So take your time in buying the paper that you think will suit your needs the best. And if you’re planning to carry your papers around, consider buying a rolling paper protector as well.

2.    Grind that Flower

Step two is about grinding the flower till its right. Grinding the strain just till it hits the perfect consistency is the best move you’ll make. Ensuring that the weed is crumbly and completely free of stems will guarantee the best results. Now to get there, break down the weed using a grinder. A grinder won’t let your hands get sticky and you’ll be able to use the paper more easily then.

Even if you don’t have a grinder, it’s okay. You can use a pair of scissors or any other sharp object to break down your weed. You can even use your hand.

After using the grinder, if you notice some powder-like stuff at the bottom of the grinder’s chamber, that’s probably kief. One thing about it is that it’s loaded with THC. Make no mistake and put it to use by adding it to the joint or just sprinkle it back to the weed container.

3.    Time to Use the Filter

Although using a filter is optional, it surely prevents you from having those tiny bits into your mouth. Place the filter at one end of the rolling paper. Remember that the thickness of your filter will determine the thickness of your joint. For example, if the filter is thin, the joint will be thin and if the filter is thick, we can assume the joint is going to be thick.

4.    Filling the Paper

Now comes the fun part. Place the paper on some flat surface like a table, tray, or even a magazine. And after placing the filter on one end, stuff the paper with weed.  Keep the excess weed aside: safe for later use. After the paper is filled, sit back and notice if the joint looks even. It shouldn’t be fat from anywhere in the middle or so.

In case, the joint gets loose midway or if it doesn’t look even, back up and start from the top.

5.    And Now We Roll

The pro tip to getting your joint tight and cylindrical is to hold the joint from both ends. Squeeze and rub your fingers up and down. This will help you in creating a tight little log and the whole joint will become the same width as the filter. Another important tip is to get the paper tightly around the filter in the first place. Focusing on this first and getting it right will make the rest of the joint follow.

If you don’t get it right the first time, don’t worry. Hardly anyone gets it perfectly right on the first try. Following the rules and a bit of practice will make you the rolling king soon.

6.    Lick and Fire

All that’s left to do is to lick the glued side of the paper and seal the joint. Tap the bottom side (the one with filter) on the same surface, table, or tray. You can also use the pen and press from the other side so that the flour gets packed in.

Now the excess paper from the top is to be twisted and there you go. You have now made a joint, all by yourself. All you have to do is to sit back and enjoy your joint with complete satisfaction.
